Patty Colman is a History professor at Moorpark College. She holds an MA in American Indian Studies and an MA in History. Her research interests include the 19^th century African American community of Los Angeles and women homesteaders. She has collaborated with the California Historical Society, National Park Service, California African American Museum, and currently serves on the Community College Committee for the Organization of American Historians. Most recently, Patty received a summer research fellowship at the Huntington Library, which she will complete in July 2025. When not researching, writing, or teaching, Patty can be found on the pickleball courts at Arroyo Vista Park
