Dr. Sevet Johnson 
Chief Executive Officer, County of Ventura

 

Dr. Sevet Johnson was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer for the County of Ventura by a unanimous decision of the Board of Supervisors on August 2, 2022.

Dr. Johnson joined the County in 2009 and most recently served as the Chief Deputy Director of the County’s Health Care Agency prior to serving as the Interim County Executive Officer since March 22, 2022. She will continue to oversee 27 County agencies and departments with an operating budget of $2.7 billion and over 10,000 staff members. As part of her duties, Dr. Johnson will also serve as the Ex-Officio Clerk of the Board. By trade, she is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and previously served as the Director of the County’s Behavioral Health Department overseeing the County Mental Health Plan, serving approximately 18,000 clients annually through outpatient services. She is committed to diversity and equity and passionate about serving underserved populations and ensuring that the consumer's voice is heard and valued.

Accomplishments she is proud of include the expansion of a Latino Outreach Program and its’ adaptation to respond to populations significantly impacted by the COVID pandemic, significantly increasing services to the Latino population, developing the first staff survey for the Department and leading the Department in piloting the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System to expand coverage for those with substance use issues.

Dr. Johnson served as the Co-Chair for the Cultural Competency, Equity and Social Justice Committee for the California Behavioral Health Directors’ Association and has been an active member on several other committees both locally and at the State level. She has been given the opportunity to speak at several venues regarding the work being done in Ventura County as well as to promote suicide awareness and provide education on the many different faces of mental health as they present in communities of color. She was a lead for the Ventura County Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission and has led and facilitated several panels and dialogue sessions about race and relations.

She obtained her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Boston Majoring in English with a Minor in Africana Studies in 2001. She continued and earned a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine Graduate School of Education and Psychology in 2004 and then went on to earn a terminal Masters’ in Psychology in 2007 and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Multicultural Community Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant University and holds a Diversity and Inclusion certificate from Yale University.

Dr. Johnson is a former adjunct professor for California Lutheran University and the University of Phoenix teaching several courses ranging from Abnormal Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Qualitative Statistics and Psychological Assessment. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, staying active, and being active with community service.

Meetings are held at Country Harvest in Moorpark.
