For more than thirty years, Jim Fryhoff has been working to keep the community safe as one of the top leaders in the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. After joining the Department in 1990, Jim has gone on to become a two-time Deputy of the Year, a Medal of Valor recipient, and has been a two-time Police Chief. Under his tenure as Chief, the City of Thousand Oaks was named the safety city of its size in California.
Jim was born at Arcadia Methodist Hospital and grew up in Pasadena. He moved to Ventura County upon joining the Sheriff's Office (VCSO) at age 19. Jim has lived in Camarillo, Ventura, and Oxnard until he and his family settled in Simi Valley almost twenty years ago. He and his wife Traci have two beautiful teenage daughters, Vanessa and Savannah. Jim has continued to pursue his education while working full time and raising a family.
Jim earned his Bachelor’s Degree from San Diego State University and his Master’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma, where he has been an adjunct professor since 2016. Jim is a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and together, his family regularly attends mass at St. Peter Claver and St. Rose of Lima Parishes. Jim loves to golf with his daughters and he has volunteered as an assistant golf coach at St. Rose of Lima School in Simi Valley.
